Thu, November 19, 2026 · 9:40 AM Pacific

Evans Auditorium
Portland, OR

About this event

Oboist and interdisciplinary artist Catherine Lee began raising silkworm moths in 2018 and during the pandemic the tiny moths became her musical partner. In "Life Work" the audience will experience the life cycle of these moths sonically and visually through field recordings that she collected and her improvisations in conjunction with the Scuffed Computer Improviser (SCI), programmed by Taylor Brook, that listens, learns, and improvises with the sounds it has heard like a constantly shifting mirror.A video showcasing aspects of the silkworm moth that are often overlooked will also be shown. This immersive concert also includes a short talk on the life cycle of the domestic silkworm (Bombyx mori) and interactive displays. This event is not open to the public.
